My project about George Polti's 36 dramatic situations. (a theory about story-plots) He states there are but 36 different dramatic situations. All story plots consist of a combination of these basic plots. I was fascinated by this crazy fact and wanted to make the theory visible. I made a selection of seven stories and created a sheet containing all storyelements present in those stories. When you place the sheet over the drawings you can tell which elements exist in a particular story. With the elements you can 'calculate' the story-plot.
For example: The storyelements are 1. the emperor 2. the real nightingale 3. the fake nightingale. The emperor is someone who is in love. The real nightingale is the loved one. The fake nightingale is the obstacle (for obtaining true love).
A combination of these elements represent the story-plot: obstacles to love.
The Stories I've selected are: The Chinese Nightingale, The Birds, Moby Dick, Salome, Leda and the Swan, Animal Farm and The Wizard of Oz.
